Iffie Saieva is a British spatial artist and designer, currently based in London. Her work challenges social barriers to accessing nature in Britain by framing the essence of the self as an extension of the wilderness.

 

Her practice explores the unseen and imagined embodied in space through sculpture, structure and sound with metalwork forming a key medium throughout. Her experience as a bicycle mechanic, informs her ethos which sees design as a tool for autonomy, agency, and connection with the self, the other, and the environment.

 

Growing up in London her relationship to nature was formed through magical and fantastical books and comics. As her experiences matured she became attuned to classist undertones in the shaping of infrastructure and discussion of who has access to nature. Her work declares the human experience as rooted in the natural world. She subverts expectations of the natural world in a hope to awaken a dormant ancient human connection to nature.

 

Iffie graduated from Chelsea college of Art and Design, BA Interior Design and the Royal college of Art , MA Interior design sponsored by the World of Interiors Bursary.
