Sonic chambers is a sound pavilion in which form follows the sonic environment. Sonic Chambers responds directly to the sonic environment of a space and the sonic traces when embodied by the living. Led by an observation of sheep projecting their voices through the rolling hills of Abergavenny in South Wales, which raised the question “could the sheep be engaging in play?”.

The piece uses four parabolic sound mirrors as natural amplifiers to create intimate moments and invite play with space using sound. Collaborative workshops activate the installation by exploring the depths of listening and hearing to engage with the self, the other and the sonic environment. Sonic Chambers was installed at Dancing Family Festival in July 2026 and Lemon Land festival September 2026.

In collaboration with Musician and composer Philippa Godsalve deep listening workshops were held following the practices of Pauline Oliveros and R.Murray Schafer. Other workshops included experimentations with transducers to amplify the subtle sounds within the installation when filled with participants.
