Together Alone is a series of installations designed for the Lyric Square in Hammersmith to combat aspects of loneliness caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and serve as a commentary on the added impact to the climate emergency the pandemic has caused.
Contextually this project draws on the lived experience of self isolation and aims to repurpose modified social behaviours learnt through social distancing to spark connections between strangers.

I mapped my interpretation of togetherness. Each line slightly off axis and off centre to show a sense of uneasiness, represent a member of the family grouped along a linear timeline. The staggering show the withdrawal to solitude.
The walls are perforations of botanical patterns emblematic of the Art Nouveau movement, the natural forms add elements of Biophilic design into the user experience.
To re-use from the pandemic the walls are constructed of used melted single use face masks. Prior to melting, the masks are dyed Pantone P115-1U which most resembles bleached coral reef, a devastating effect of climate change. The once vibrant Art Nouveau patterns stripped of all colour serve as a stark reminder of the imminent action needed to tackle climate change.
